Job Summary:

The Electrical/Controls Engineering Technician's role is to install and commission complex industrial finishing and dispensing systems. The Electrical / Controls Engineering Technician will work amongst a team of highly technical electrical / controls experts in the finishing and dispensing industries. Responsible for the successful installation, startup, and commissioning of finishing and dispensing systems.

Principal Job Duties:

• Work with a team of electrical and controls engineers to install and commission multiple projects with strict and overlapping schedules.

• Manage all electrical installation aspects of assigned engineering projects and work closely with the other engineering group functions, such as Operations, Mechanical Engineering, Project Management, etc.

• Interpret customer specifications and scopes of work and apply them to the installation and startup following governing industrial electrical codes.

• Read, interpret, and understand all electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and fluid flow/control schematics in PDF.

• Possess the ability to understand anomalies and apply markups for any "as built" field modifications back to the designers.

o Set up and configure a broad range of control components such as servo drives, measuring light curtains, safety scanners, vision cameras, and various other programmable control components.
  • Integrate Robotic Systems with a focus on Finishing & Dispensing applications.
    • Fanuc, ABB, Motoman (Fanuc experience is a must)
    • Understand and be able to follow Ladder Logic/ Path Programming / Sequence Programming
    • Understand the use of Robot / PLC Interlocks
  • Conduct I/O checks on systems at customer facilities, as well as the subsequent startup and commissioning of industrial finishing and dispensing systems.
  • Communicate effectively with all internal and external stakeholders.

• Desire and ability to learn new control technology.
  • Work closely with the engineering sales team to develop accurate project bids, focusing on the electrical and controls componentry.

• Understand the following: NEC, UL, CSA, and NFPA.

• Must be able to travel (70%)

o Rarely internationally, if at all

o Most commonly the Midwest, but it could be in any of the 48 states

Knowledge of computer programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint

Is familiar with Allen Bradley and Siemens HMI and PLC programming software.

Education:
  • AAS two-year degree by candidate and experience of 5-7 years or more working in a related field
  • Minimum 1-3 yrs. Experience in automated machinery installation and off-site and on-site commissioning

Experience:
  • Manufacturing industry experience in installing control panels and electrical circuits and integrating highly automated machines and processes. Experience in Finishing and/or Dispensing a plus, specifically (Liquid Painting, Powder Coating, and Dispensing Technology)
  • Knowledge of drafting techniques/engineering terminology and ability to understand and comprehend detailed electrical/mechanical/pneumatic and fluid schematics.
  • Experience with Industrial Safety Application Equipment a plus
  • Knowledge and understanding of control systems governed by platforms such as Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, Omron, Siemens, etc. (Experience with multiple platforms a plus)
  • Experience in networking concepts and application of network control strategies
  • Ability to configure Touch Screens (HMI's)
  • Experience installing & commissioning Robotic Systems a plus
  • Broad knowledge of electrical & automation devices desired.
  • Well-developed problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with limited supervision is a plus.
