Position Summary:
Under general supervision, perform engineering duties in planning and designing tools, machines and other mechanically functioning equipment.
Essential Functions:
- Design special tooling including but not limited to single or special purpose machine tools, patterns, jigs, mechanisms and other mechanically functioning equipment.
- Design customer fixtures, parts, inventions and concepts as requested by customers, sales team representatives, managers and/or Mechanical Estimator
- Lead or assist in the actual drafting of plans, prints, drawings and concept work necessary for selling, demonstrating or the actual fabrication/assembly of manufactured parts
- Research, recommend and/or specify construction materials and special procedures required
- Communicate the status/needs of the work to the customer, the Field Service Manager, the Laron Inc., Planner, Laron Inc., Quality Control and Sales Team
- Read, interpret and generate blueprints, technical drawings, schematics and computer generated reports
- Research, define, evaluate, install, operate and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles
- Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform as a mechanical estimator or project manager when necessary
- Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to appropriate staff
- Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions
- Confer with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions and provide technical information
- All other duties as assigned by management
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Engineering and Technology - knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services
- Mechanical - knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance
- Design - knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models
- Production and Processing - knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
- Mathematics - knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics and their applications and ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra and advanced statistical theory. Ability to work with concepts such as limits, quadratic and differential equations and proofs of theorems
- Considers the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one
- Effectively communicates information when speaking with or corresponding with others
- Applies general rules of deductive reasoning to specific problems to produce answers that make sense
- Display creativity and alternative thinking to develop new ideas for and answers to work related problems
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Read, interpret and generate blueprints, technical drawings, schematics and computer generated reports
- Functional knowledge of computer aided design/drafting program.
Training/Education and/or Special Qualifications:
- Two years minimum related experience; Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four year college or university; or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- BS Mechanical Engineer preferred
- Qualified and proficient producing drawings and working with AutoCAD and Solid Works CAD software
- Qualified and proficient in the preparation of DXF files
- Experience with quality control practices preferred, such as ASME, NQA-1 or ISO
- Qualified with MS Office and Windows, specifically excel, word and outlook
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Physical demands of the job include a majority of time spent walking and sitting
- Work is performed in moderate noise levels such as a business office setting with computer and printers
- Occasional work at varying heights and confined spaces
- Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling
- Occasional work at nuclear power generation stations
